[Opinions] Lidewij
I just finished reading John Green's new book, The Fault in Our Stars, and a character in Amsterdam is called Lidewij. LEE-deh-vie, if my understanding of Dutch pronunciation is correct. WDYT? Obviously it's not realistic spellingwise for an American, but I think the sound is actually quite lovely.
It's not in the database, but I googled it and Dutch Wikipedia says its German in origin and from "liud" (people) and "wi" (holy) or "wih" (struggle).

Ooh, shiny. It reminds me of Lidwine, which I also like - but prettier.
That is really pretty.
I have no idea. I just want to mention that Lidewij was named after a real person in the Nerdfighting community. My boyfriend shared a hotel room with her at Vidcon.
*anxiously awaiting my copy of TFiOS*
+ At least, my boyfriend said the character was most likely named after her.

Was she really? I had no idea! Who is she?
I found TFiOS in the mailbox after school and did a little happy dance. Then I locked myself in my room for three hours to finish it. SO GOOD. And so sad. I was in tears at some parts.

It sort of reminds me of Lievilt, which I just found over on Eponymia, but I suspect that's only because I was just reading Eponymia literally about three minutes ago, and both names are completely unfamiliar to me and begin with Li.
I think the the sound of Lidewij is incredibly pretty, and the meaning is fantastic. I don't think that I like the look of it quite as much as I like the sound, but I'm not entirely sure. I agree that it probably isn't realistic in America, but I definitely think it could be used as a middle name. However, I'm up for just about anything in the middle.
