It was popular when I was growing up, and it was something of a "cheerleader" name, but I still think it's pretty and fresh. It's sunflower-colored, in my mind.

I have no idea if little girls named Brooklyn are called Brooke, but they might be. I think people would want to call them by that trendy -lyn sound, though, so the NN might not be as common as you think.

My middle child is Victoria Brooke and goes by her mn. I loved the nature reference when I chose the name and will admit there are preconceived notions that go along with it such as: girls and women named Brooke are cheerleaders (she isn't), or popular (she is) or stuck up (she isn't) or confident and friendly (she is). These notions do bug me somewhat but it is what it is. For the most part, people have responded favorably to her name -- although two elderly men have called her Brooks even after correcting them repeatedly! What I find truly interesting is that the older she gets, the more she'll use Victoria in formal situations without prompting from her dad or me. That doesn't bother me in the slightest since I adore Victoria.

Re: Brooklyn, I've never known any although we do have a neighbor whose dog is Brook Lyn (after the Brooklyn Dodgers). :-) I don't like it nearly as well as Brooke.

I think Brooke may appear to be more common than it actually is because it's a common mn, however, if you look at the SS stats, it never rose higher than the 40s. Brooke has only met two or three in her entire life (unlike all of the girls named Megan, Jessica, Lauren, Ashley, Brittany, Brianna, Emily, Caitlin, Katie / Kate, etc.).

My friend's predecessor on JET whom I actually met at an alumni gathering in Vancouver some years ago was named Brooke (I'm guessing she'd be in her 30s or 40s now) and I know a missionary's daughter (15 now I guess) named Brooke, but haven't met too many. It's an ok name and not too out there. Haven't met a plethora of Brooklyns, but I'm ok with that. I think it's pleasant and simple and not too out there, so it has that in its favour and the meaning's not bad, so it doesn't have that to nix it... Only drawback I can really think of would be if she were a yappy little thing and got the title "Babbling Brooke", but that's pretty minor compared to what can be done w/ some other names.

Arden Brooke and Esther Brooke. I prefer Annabelle Brooke to Brooke Annabelle.

When I think of Brooke on a girl, it just seems like someone from my age group. I never liked or disliked it really. However, now I love, love love Brooks on a boy so Brooke falls waaaaay down on the list for a girl.

Oh and I do think that a Brooklyn would go by Brooke for short.

I actually quite like Brooke, I like the nature aspect of it, although I think Brooke the river is actually spelled Brook. Also there are a few places near where I live called Brook.

The thing I don't like is that more I look at it, the more I think it looks like brOOk with an "oooo" sound, rather than a short O sound, or the word "broke".

I don't think it's particularly popular. I know a 2/3 year old girl called Brooke and a 5yo whose middle name is Brooke.

Though the meaning is nice, I have never cared for the sound. I was an exchange student in France, and one of the other Americans who was there was named Brooke. And the French students all laughted and said "Broooooooooke" (rhyming with duke). They'd say things like "Broooooke....you snore EVERY NIGHT! (but in a French accent--I can't emphasize how funny this actually was)!"

I think of a girl who is assertive and dressed smartly. She'd probably a business woman, for for an ethical business. She has strong morals. Not really nature or cheer leader image for me. She'd probably be a runner.

I love Brooke. It kind of gives me a nature vibe. I don't know any Brookes (or Brooklyn's who go by Brooke). One combo I always loved was Brooke Adelaide.

I like it very much. It's kind of an all-American name that beats Brooklyn by lightyears. All the little Brooklyns and Brooklynns and Brooklynnes I've seen have been going by their full names, not Brooke (thank goodness). I like it better as a first name, but it does make a pleasant and simple middle name.

Brooke is yellow to me. It's a happy name for a girl next door. She's pleasant and happy and upbeat. She could be any age, but she's still a happy person, and balanced.

Arden Brooke sounds like either a subdivision or a stripper. :/ I like Esther Brooke a lot, and Hadley Brooke is all right. I think it makes a fabulous first name, but I don't really like the middle names you've picked. If I may make some suggestions...
