[Opinions] Whiskey
A friend mentioned that she would like to name her daughter this name. I guess it came from Dollhouse. It's interesting. I guess. If it wasn't alcohol I think people might have used it. I like the sound of it, but it's still alcohol and wouldn't want to name a child of mine after a alcoholic beverage of any kind. What do you guys think of Whiskey and naming children after alcohol? I've met a few kids with alcohol names (mostly middle names).

To be honest, I find the idea really dumb. Whiskey is particular unfortunate, though I can see it on a pet.
Oh no no no no no.
Cute on a dog, but no.

I would buy her a dog before she had a chance to conceive little Whiskey, so she could use the name on an animal rather than a human being. Although (without knowing this girl at all) I really doubt she'd name her daughter this if she had the chance.
I know someone who named her daughter Midori because that's what she was drinking when her daughter was conceived. Lovely. I would think a Whiskey would have the same story.
Midori is actually a name, though.
That's true, but this girl didn't know that. She was surprised when I told her it was an actual name.
But yeah, I get where you're coming from. Midori works in a way Whiskey wouldn't.

I call my cat Whiskey occasionally (her name is Whiskers haha).
In all seriousness, I think people would always associate the name with alcohol, I don't know how anyone couldn't. And even if it wasn't an alchoholic drink, I still think the name is pretty ugly :S
The only other name I can think of that is also an alcoholic drink is Margarita and I've never liked the name, mainly for that reason. I think once it's an alcoholic drink, it's off limits as a name.

Alcohol names, nope. Ales is different, it's not alcohol in the place of the name's origin.
Naming your child after a type of alcohol has to be the epitome of trashy. :(
I've only seen a few episodes of Dollhouse, but if I recall correctly all of the "doll" characters had names which came from the NATO phonetic alphabet - Alpha, Bravo, Charlie, Delta, Echo, Foxtrot, etc, so I guess that would be where Whiskey came from.
It's a really, really, really bad, poorly thought out name.

Nope, too much.
However... I do know an adorable little girl whose name is Bailey Morgan.

I've met a guy with the middle name Guinness, which I thought was pretty cool but Whiskey as a first name for a girl. NO! I don't like the look or sound of it, so even if it wasn't alcohol I don't think I would have liked it.
Naming kids after alcohol? In general I think it's a bad idea. Kind of trashy. But as long as it's a middle name I don't really mind.

... and sisters Brandy, Martini and Kalua?
Kinda depends... IF the alcohol was named AFTER something else (like Midori), then fine if it was actually a ligit name aside from that, it's not a problem. However, if the name comes solely from the booze itself, I think it's rather tacky... like naming a kid Beer.

For a cat, maybe. But a baby?
And what if the kid becomes an alcoholic? I know that's not what you want for your kid, but still. An alcoholic named Whiskey?

Oh no! I rolled my eyes so hard they've fallen out of my head.
