I think that I am falling in love with this name.Do you think it would work on a baby boy?

It was my late Grandfather's middle name, to me it is very old fashioned. I've never really liked it, but I have a terrible association with it now. I have a coworker who is about as intelligent as a box of rocks with the name.

Yes, it works on a baby! I know a four-year-old Walter (his twin brother is William).

It's a fine name for a strapping young lad. Go for it! I'd love to meet a little Walter. It would work well for a boy or man, and you could use Wally as a nickname if you wanted to. I really like Wally.

I don't like it. I never have. It is so drab to me, and while I enjoy dusting off worn classics, this is a name which, even though it appears it to be receiving a lot of play on this board, I don't think I could ever like. Even if it became popular again, I don't think I'll ever like this one.Wilfred and Wilbur, however, I enjoy very much.

The only person I know with the name Walter is a very elderly uncle who is named Walter George. His entire life he has been know as Bud though instead of either Walter or George so I don't really think of him when I see this name. It is a name that I think could become "new."

I like it a lot. It was my father's name and I would like to use it as a middle name for a boy one day. I think it's an adorable first name too but I don't feel like I could use it as a first name.
I think it would most definitely work on a baby boy. I'm not a fan of any nicknames but I think you can avoid them if you want to.
Valter/Walter (combined spellings, both pronounced like Valter) is quite popular here (Sweden). From 2005 to 2010 it has gone from #96 to #61. I haven't meet a little Walter yet but I know they're out there and that makes me happy.

I love it! If my husband liked it I'd let myself love it more and consider using it. It's such a handsome, trustworthy, intelligent name, and I associate it with fly fishing, which is a big plus.

Yes, Walter is trustworthy, isn't he?

It would be delightful! Never underestimate the charm of the unexpected. And it is a good name, with a kind of dorkiness that's really appealling.

Well, it wouldn't work too well on a baby girl, so on a boy would definitely be the way to go... has a somewhat nerdy feel to it, but at the same time, I do prefer it to some of the current trends... but on someone else's kid.

I have a 10-month-old nephew named Walter, and it definitely works on a baby. In fact, it's incredibly cute. :)

I think the name is adorably old fashioned and sweet but I do have a hard time actually picturing a baby with the name. I know a lot of people use the nn Walt, which I think works just fine. I think I'd have to meet a little baby Walter before I can say if it would work on a baby or not, but I do still love it!

This is definitely a favorite name for me. It makes me think of a very sweet old (Well, 50ish) man with a firm voice of reason but everyone's best interest at heart. While it IS old fashioned, it's a name I'd love to see revived! It just has a great vibe behind it.
