[Opinions] Nneka
What do you think of the name Nneka (NEEK-a)? This is the name of a girl I went to high school with. It popped into my head the other day for no reason. I always thought it had a neat sound to it, though the double "n" at the beginning always rubbed me the wrong way - I've always preferred the spelling Nika. Just an interesting name I thought I'd throw out there.

Nneka seems to be a name from the Igbo language of Nigeria. I don't think that "Nika" would actually be how it's pronounced in Igbo, but I don't know if Americans could really effectively pronounce the sound represented by "nn" at all. Any way, this is not an arbitrary respelling but a use of a real African name. I would pronounce it something like "n'neeka" myself if I gave it to a child, but I suppose Nika would end up being an inevitable shorter form. I think Nneka is a fine name for anyone who admires Igbo culture and wishes to give a real West African name to their child.http://kwenu.com/afamefune/N_names.htm

I agree with you. It's neat, but much better spelled Nika.

I don't like the spelling. Nika looks a lot better and I kinda like it.PS. Is Effie your real name? I love it!

I like Nika. I also like the similar Nike. It is pronounced "NEE-keh" (maybe not by English speakers) and people are considering this name in Sweden now. "But it’s all right now.

Nika is an ok name but I'm not wild about it. I think it makes a very cute name for a pet though. I dislike the way Nneka looks. How about Nyssa or Nissa (with the pronunciation NEE-sa)? Nisa would probably be mispronounced less often. Nissa / Nyssa / Nisa sounds softer to me than Nika.
