WDYT of Alasdair? I recently found out that my mom's paternal side has a bunch of Alexanders, so I'm pretty excited to consider Alasdair an honouring name.

It's one of my top three favorite boy names. :) It's so handsome and strong. This is my favorite spelling of the name as well. It just looks much more distinguished and elegant spelled this way. I also tend to pronounce it just a tad differently than Alistair/Alastair. I put more emphasis on the D: "AL-iss-der" instead of "AL-iss-stir."

I love it. There might be a pronunciation issue (outside of the UK) - I can see a lot of people making the last syllable a harsh "dare," which isn't as much of a problem with other spellings- Alastair, etc. But I do find Alasdair most attractive.
What about nicknames, though? I really dislike Al, and I'm not seeing other options.

Idk, the "t" and the "d" sound pretty much the same to me. It's like the Cecily/Sicily conundrum. My accent makes them sound the same. I just think Alasdair looks nicer than Alastair.
I thought about nicknames too. I love Alasdair too much, I think, to use a nn. If other people wanted to call him Al or Ally, I wouldn't mind though.

My mother's first middle name is Alexandra, and the first paternal ancestor of my paternal grandmother (got that?) to come to America from Scotland was an Alexander, so I look at Alexander variants with the same excitement.

I love Alasdair, but I have Scottish connections and it's not unusual there. Don't know how it would fare in the US.

I adore Alasdair! It's the name my husband and I have picked out if we have a boy. It is honoring in our instance as well.

I prefer Alastair, but I think either one is a great alternative to Alexander. Alasdair/Alastair is a really nice name and uncommon but not unheard of, you know? And it's easy to pronounce!
