Yes, I know about him:-) But would kids born today even know who he is?
Anyway, I've never understood people who don't want to use a name because it's in a cartoon. Like Dora because of Dora the explorer. I mean isn't she a nice girl (I don't watch cartoons), so how would it be a bad thing if a child shared a name with her? I understand with names like Elmer, Homer, etc., but Dora, Lisa (Simpson), even Bart don't have negative connotations to me. Might be a cultural thing, since I've never heard these concerns where I live.

Well, my 3-year-old nephew is obsessed with Mario and my son just became obsessed with Mario Kart, so... :)
Although when I worked at a Burger King in high school, we had Mario toys for the kids meals once and some 6ish year old was there with his grandmother. She asked what kind of toys we had and when I said Mario, the boy said, "What's that?" And I was sad.
I agree, I wouldn't let video games or cartoons necessarily stop me from using a name I liked, unless like you point out they're very strongly tied and somewhat negatively so. It would be something I'd take into consideration when deciding amongst other names though.
