I haven't heard of Zale before. My instinct is to pronounce it ZAYL. It seems slightly more feminine to me than masculine. I would like it as a nn for Azalea.
I like the name Azalea with the nn Zale. Azalea sounds beautiful, sexy and exotic. Zale sounds spunky and cool.

I like the name Azelea. that would be a way to ue it without giving into the 'hype' of trendy made up names
