[Opinions] Courfaivre
So, I'm reading a story my friend is writing at the moment, and her main character - a girl - is named Courfaivre, which is shortened by some of the other characters to just Cour. I was wondering what you all think of this name. Do you like it? Have you heard of any before? (I've never heard of it). Oh, and how would you pronounce it? I've been pronouncing it COR-feh-vreh, but I don't know whether that's right. Thanks!

I've never seen it. If I were reading a book and had to guess, I'd pronounce it coor-FEHV'r or maybe COOR-fayv. I'd pronounce Cour as Coo(r), since it looks French. And like erb816, I immediately thought of the phrase "curry favor" which means, basically, suck up. And Cour sounds a lot like "cool." Those two English sounds are why I do not like it. It does look cool, though.

I would guess that the name is pronounced coor-FAHV-ruh, and that it's Medieval French, because (to me) it looks archaic. It sort of looks like the phrase "curry favor," which your friend may or may not intend. May I ask what the story is about, or what genre it is?
