One of my college professors gave birth to her first child last week. Her name is Seneca Naomi. Seneca is in honor of Seneca Village, which was the first congregation of free African-American landowners in what is now Central Park in New York City, and also for Seneca Falls, New York, home of the Women's rights convention in 1848. I absolutely love this BA because not only is it a beautiful name, but her mother is a professor of African-American and women's studies and has written several books and essays on both subjects. I also think that Seneca definitely fits a girl even though it's historically a male given name. I had been anxiously awaiting to hear the name, and I have to say I am not disappointed in the slightest.
