[Opinions] Timothy
I love the name Timothy, but I really don't like Timmy. Tim isn't that bad, but I don't love it. I also have an uncle named Timothy, but he's on a side of the family that I don't associate with. Would it be strange to use Timothy if it's the name of a family member I have nothing to do with? What do you think of Timothy?

Timothy is an great, underused classic that could use some love. I don't think it would matter that your uncle has the name.
I know two Timothy's--one, in his late 20's, always goes by Timothy, and the other, in his late 60's, always goes by Tim.
I love the name because it's one of the softer male names, and not used that often. I think a brief explanation on your part, something along the lines of "no, not after (uncle?) so & so, we just loved the name." End of story.

I think Timothy is a very nice name. It's one of the few names with the th sound that I like. I can't stand Timmy either, it's the stereotypical bratty little boy name. Tim is a nice, friendly name though.
It might be a bit odd to you to use a name belonging to a relative you don't associate with, but few people will make the connection so I think it's not a problem.
