Vladimir doesn't bring Lenin to mind at all for me. I think of two things: first, of a poem about names that I know--and that no one else seems to have heard of. Secondly, I think of
Vlad the Impaler, the inspiration for Dracula. It's not something I'd use, but it'd be cool for someone else's kid. I think
Dragomir would be nice.
If I had to use Russian names to name my children, I wouldn't mind too terribly. However, since I think naming should be a partnership sort of thing, they wouldn't have fully Russian names. After all, I'm not one whit Russian, and I would want their names to reflect on my influences as well as their father's!
So if my husband was Russian and we had to compromise, two of our children's names might look somewhat like this:
Daughter: Thursday
AgafyaSon:
Matvei Horatio
Array
The dogs on main street howl
`Cause they understand
If I could take one moment into my hands
Mister, I ain't a boy--no I'm a man,
And I believe in a promised land.
