Help[Opinions] Olive
I used to think it was super ugly and that parents only used it because they wanted to actually use Olivia but thought that was too common. But I watched a movie recently in which the main character was named Olive and it has really grown on me. I love the -liv sound in it and I find that it is more noticeable in Olive than Olivia which I like. Also it's less frilly and very down to earth. I love how it makes me think of the color green and olive trees are among my favorite trees. I also love olives.
Also I noticed that I'm getting sick of pretty much anything ending in -a at the moment. There are just so many -a ending names in the top 100, and -e endings seem so calm and attractive in comparison to me now. I prefer Eve over Eva, Belle over Bella, Diane over Diana etc

I use to hate it, then I met a little Olive was probably only about 3 years old, which helped me into a different opinion - and now I really like it! I do think it's "hipster trendy," in the same boat with Ruby and Pearl, but I love Olive so much more! And nn Liv is adorable. Mary-Olive is a go to combo of mine

Personally, I prefer Liv to Olive, but I think Olive can be elegant and also spunky. Someone here a while back introduced me to Olivine "-een", a color name, which I also like. I'm not sick of "-a" endings, as you are, but I agree that Olive is refreshing, which is why I'd be surprised if it didn't rise in popularity, especially after the fairly recent movie. I, too, enjoy the earthiness of olive, and like olives themselves. I also enjoy the association of the olive branch with "peace". I grew up seeing "Popeye" cartoons, so Olive Oyl is the only other association I have with the name, but I don't actually think of her when I see the name; I think of "peace".

Yeah! Olivine! How could I forget her! A touch more elegant than Olive I think but still as charming.... plus the gem/color is gorgeous.... and I already love just about every "ine" name in existance :)

Yes, I think Olive has the potential to be the next trendy hipster name. If one celebrity uses it watch it slither up the chart. And that's what Olive sounds like to me, slithering. So does Oliver and Olivia. (Also Vivian and Lydia.) I think it's ugly ugly ugly. And I like olives too. I like green also, but not olive green.

Despite knowing a young Olive (she's maybe 8 years old), I still find this name dated, much like Jacqueline and Dorothy. It is not my style at all and I don't think it will turn "hipster" or popular any time soon. I really like Olivia though wouldn't use it as a first name because of it's popularity.
