[Opinions] Varian for a boy.
I recently discovered that it was the name of the late American journalist Varian Fry (1907-1967). In his case, his name probably derives from the surname Varian (which could be Old Irish in origin, but also Old English or Old French). However, it could also be the anglicized form of Latin Varianus (an extended form of Varius). So, what are your impressions of the name? Does it have any teasing potential for a boy in this day and age?

O, Varian! That's the first thing I thought of. Varian sounds also like a variation or variant, like you might say "These tomato plants here are varians of my mother's heirloom tomatoes.

or Ovarian

It's interesting, and I kind of like it, but it reminds me of the word "variant."

I like it. I could easily be convinced to use it.
The "v" makes it seem brave, but not overly so. It's also uncommon but easy to spell and say. It also has sort of a fictional vibe, like it could easily be the name of an adventurer or warrior character in a story (which is a big plus for me, although a lot of people would probably prefer names that just sound like 'regular people').

Hmmm, not my style. Sounds too close to varig, "full of pus" in Swedish.

It's an interesting name. VAH ree an is quite appealing, VARE ee an isn't - sounds too much like variant.

I initially said it VAR-ee-an.
Then I changed it to VAIR-ee-an.How do you properly pronounce this name?
