[Opinions] Which pronunciation of Kamalla sounds better? (double ll can also sound like a Y)
I need help deciding! A double 'll' can also sound like a 'Y' (in Spanish & sometimes in French too). I don't know if the 'Y' sound would be too much of a stretch for most people. Which pronunciation do you think would sound better for the name Kamalla. ka-ma-la or as ka-my-uh (the name predominitely means 'lotus', 'love/desire', in Hindi and 'the garden' in Hawaiian). Also what does each pronunciation make you first think of and why did you choose one over the other? Thanks :)

I dislike them both. Ka-ma-la is better though. The other doesnt make sense, if the ll is pro. as a y , then it would be Ka-ma-yuh. Where does the "I" sound come from ? That pro. would be too confusing. HTH.

I'd pron this as Ka-ma-la, I think Ka-my-uh sounds better though, but then I'd change the spelling to Kamaya (which also looks better to me)

Kamalla looks like a badly spelled version of Camilla. When it is pronounced "kah-my-uh" it seems like Maya, a beautiful, elegant name, with a prefix slapped on it. "kah-MEE-uh" seems like a beautiful pronounciation. I would spell it Camia. - MelissaArielle Norah

I think it sounds better with a "y" sound as Kamalla makes me think of lots of boys names like Kamal and Jamal, which sound the same but without the "a" on the end. I would also spell it Kamaya, because there is no way that most people would look at Kamalla and pronounce it Kamaya in most places in England or America, I would think.

I like Kamaya, it sounds prettier to me. But the name has a nice meaning either way. =]

I would pronounce it as ka-ma-la, however I prefer the spelling Kamala.

If you want the 'y' sound then spell it with a 'y', especially if you think most people would otherwise pronounce it kam-alla. Also, I think if you're not Hispanic, to expect people to pronounce a child's name Kamalla as 'kam-aye-ah' might be a bit funny. Also, I'm pretty sure you asked for opinions on this before.I remember my answer being along the lines of:Kamalla (ka-mal-ah) sounds too much like Kabbala, therefore I prefer Kamaya.

Re: My husband is Hispanic, though he doesn't speak Spanish. I would choose to spell it with two ll's for numerology purposes. Yes, I did post this question before and thought I'd post one more time thinking that maybe there might be some new people on it and I can get their opinions as well since most people don't look all the way through to older posts. This is the first time I've ever really done the message board thing so not exactly sure how it totally works. Thanks.
