If you want the 'y' sound then spell it with a 'y', especially if you think most people would otherwise pronounce it kam-alla. Also, I think if you're not Hispanic, to expect people to pronounce a child's name Kamalla as 'kam-aye-ah' might be a bit funny.
Also, I'm pretty sure you asked for opinions on this before.
I remember my answer being along the lines of:
Kamalla (ka-mal-ah) sounds too much like Kabbala, therefore I prefer Kamaya.
