[Opinions] Royd.
I discovered last night that this is the first name of one of J.R.R. Tolkien's great-grandsons, Royd Tolkien (born Royd Baker; he later adopted his mother's surname). Presumably his name comes from the rare English surname Royd, which means "clearing".Anyway, what do you think of the name Royd? What are the pros and cons of this name, in your opinion? Do you prefer it to other -oyd names, such as Boyd, Floyd and Lloyd?Thank you in advance for your input. :)

If it weren't for the unfortunate "homophone" associations already mentioned, which also occurred to me, I think I might prefer Royd to Floyd or even just Roy. I love Lloyd and like Boyd enough that Royd wouldn't beat them out. But Royce does come to mind...similar feel without the "homophone" problem; the car association doesn't bother me.

Yes, when I hear Royd, I think steroid or hemorrhoid, not so nice. But I do love -oyd names especially Lloyd

by now...Thanks to Barry Bonds and his ilk, everybody in the US knows that roids are steroids and roid rage is one of the side effects.

Eek.......that's an unfortunate association indeed! :( I never heard about it, but then again, I don't live in an English-speaking country.

Yeah, the first think I thought of was also 'roids'. I don't really like any of the "-oyd" names though.
