I discovered last night that this is the first name of one of J.R.R. Tolkien's great-grandsons, Royd Tolkien (born Royd Baker; he later adopted his mother's surname). Presumably his name comes from the rare English surname
Royd, which means "clearing".
Anyway, what do you think of the name Royd? What are the pros and cons of this name, in your opinion? Do you prefer it to other
-oyd names, such as
Boyd,
Floyd and
Lloyd?
Thank you in advance for your input. :)
