Help[Opinions] Marla
My husband just threw this one out at me. I can't tell if he's kidding or not though, it's not his usual taste. I think I like it, but it's not one I've ever considered before. I'm off to research it!
Any thoughts on it? Marla Friedrich
ETA: Friedrich is our last name freed-rick, maybe Rose as the middle (I know it's common, but it's a family name I'd like to use), open to other middle names though.

Well, he wasn't serious about Marla after all (m-Update)
For a minute there I thought he was actually going to get into a name discussion with me, but nope, he was just being a stinker. So, Marla is not in the running, though it sure is cute in my opinion, and so overlooked! Out of all the names I've suggested to him lately:
Anna
Annalisa (his mom is Anneliese, they're German-but he won't go for that because he says too many people misspell and mispronounce it, so I gave him this simple alternative, but no go.)
Caterina
Catherine
Gabriella
Mary
Marianne (my mom is Mary Ann, but he doesn't like double first names, so this was my solution, but no go again!)
Marianna (a little Italian-ish which I like)
Eva
Julianne
Julianna or Juliana (the Juli-names are from my dad, he suggested them since the baby will be born in July, isn't that cute?)
Eliza (I've always loved this name, dh is not a fan)
Elle
Sofia
Phoebe
Catherine is still his favorite, so I think that is going to be it for us, I'll update if there is any change. I do love it, and I'm happy we have a good name that we agree on. Middle name will most likely be Rose or a variation of Rose, but that is still pending.

Marla is rather nice, I think I like it but mostly because it reminds me of one of my favorites Marlena (mar-LAY-nah)! :)
Marla Rose would be very pretty and rather refreshing as it isn't used very often and it's not at all popular! John, Max & Marla would be so nice! :)

I think that's what appeals to me about the name as well, that it is pretty, but not heard much at all; refreshing, like you said. I also realized that what I like very much about it is that it is a two syllable name that doesn't lend itself to a nickname like Catherine does for example. That is one of the things I like about the name Phoebe as well, but my husband doesn't like the name Phoebe unfortunately. I think that with formal sounding names (like Catherine), that are also lengthy letter-wise, people look to shorten them, and that's what is bugging me about Catherine I think.
ETA: I know the name Marlena from a soap opera (Days of Our Lives), it is pretty. :-)

Marla is sweet. I prefer Mahala, which in Australia is pronounced about the same as Marla.
