I have known a Katherine here and there and I always pronounce the name as a 2 syllable word, Kath-rine, making the e silent. We are now most likely going to name our future daughter Catherine and my husband and brother say it is a 3 syllable name and should be pronounced Cath-u-rine (which is how this site also breaks it down for pronunciation). So I've tested out both, and when I say it as a 3 syllable word it really sounds just the same (to me) as a 2 syllable word, esp. when said quickly (I speak fast). Plus, my mom asked me how it's pronounce, not even a question I thought I'd hear with this particular name! So now they all have me wondering how other people say this name.
Thanks for any input. :-)
