You know what's funny? I've known a lot of twins and none have had obviously matching names:
Laura and Alyse
Jennifer and Elise
Grant and Ross
Maribel and Crystal
Alyssia and Tiffany
Michael and Benjamin
I understand the whole individuality thing, having witnessed the above twins making a super effort to let everybody know that they may be twins but they're entirely different people. Laura and Alyse went to the extreme though with Laura becoming a blonde cheerleader and Alyse being a bad-dye job goth, it was so cliche I rolled my eyes whenever I saw them because they still ATE LUNCH TOGETHER. Obviously that's not who they were. After a year at university though they've gotten back to how they were in elementary - both different people of course but at least they're not pretending to be something their not. I guess this whole thing is "why give them something else to struggle with in the teenage bid for individuality?"
And if you insist on something "themey" look at BtNs twins section -
http://www.behindthename.com/twins.php - now that's how to do it.
