[Opinions] Re: Jesse for a boy?
in reply to a message by Evey
Where I live, it's only used by extremely fundamentalist Christians, and not many of them. A colleague once had twins, Jesse and Elizabeth, and until she put us right we all assumed that they were both daughters, Jessica and Elizabeth.
I don't find the Tree of Jesse attractive - too phallic for my simple tastes.
But I am aware that in other parts of the planet it's pretty mainstream. And the only American Jesse I've met is a very fine person.

In tougher-minded times, the family tree of Jesus was sometimes drawn/painted as a literal tree with labelled branches for various family members, growing proudly from the, ahem, loins of Jesse himself, lying on the ground and staring upwards!
Once seen, never forgotten, believe me.
