Help[Opinions] Kaniehtiio
So last night there was an actress named Kaniehtiio. Apparently it's a Mohawk name and it's pronounced basically how it looks. That's all I know about it and even those facts are iffy. Does anyone else know anything about it? What do you think of the name? Do you think it's too much? Some people think she should change her name to something "easier."

I don't know anything about the name, but if it really is a Mohawk name, she should keep it. My grandfather was forced to change his name from Bronislovas to Bruce to make it "easier" for Canadian immigration (in the 1940s, mind you). I've always thought it was sad that he had to give up that part of himself.

I've never seen or heard the name before. But if it really is from her Mohawk culture then she should absolutely keep it.

Agreed. I've read it's pronounced gah-nyet-dio but I don't know how accurate that would be. It's fun to say.
