[Opinions] Re: Opinions on Damiana
Original nicknames kind of squick me when there is no person being called them ... if you said you knew a woman who was called Dami and found out her name was Damiana I might think that was nifty, but when you propose "the occasional nickname 'Dami'" for a hypothetical, nonexistent bearer of the name Damiana, I feel skeptical. If you're talking about a fictional character, it could work, but you'd have to do it in a way that seemed natural, and there are a lot of ways it could seem fake. Damiana is one of those rare names that make a statement but it is pretty. FYI I have seen an herb called Damiana marketed as an aphrodisiac. I would probably not call a Damiana 'Dami' no matter how familiar I was with her, because it sounds uncomfortably similar to calling her "dummy." OH, you're probably pronouncing Damiana "DAY-mee-anna" or "DAY-mee-ah-na"
so Dami is DAY-mee.
OK that could happen.

I am talking about a fictional character. I found it very difficult to find the right name for her, but Damiana seems perfect for her. I thought her mother could call her Dami at times, as my mother has a special nickname for me. Thank you for your elaborate comments!
