Now after I've gone on about how much I hate surnames on girls in the below response, I will admit that there are a few---
a few ---surnames that I think sound more feminine than masculine, became standard for girls, and I think there's a reason for that.
Whitney is one of those. I definitely see it as feminine. Definitely too feminine for a boy. And Whitley is even more feminine sounding than
Whitney. So Whitley on a boy, no sir or madam.
I do find Whitley too contrived, though, even as a feminine name, and wish that every girl Whitley was instead a
Whitney. And wish that every boy Whitley had parents with some sense.
