[Opinions] WDYT of Gerard?
I never really gave much thought to the name, but as my father's middle name I realize it's actually a pretty solid name with a strong family connection. I've grown fond of it, I love how it's very strong and handsome. What nicknames do you like for Gerard and would you ever use it? Have a look at my name list and leave your ratings!

As someone who has been a fan of My Chemical Romance for many years, the name has a coffee, cigarettes, and a sketchbook vibe for me.I like it, but it took some warming up to over the years.I don't know if I'd ever use it, but now that I think about it, it does go rather nicely with Murray (a name that I've had tentatively chosen for a while now).Gerard Way just uses the nickname "Gee." I probably wouldn't use a nickname. It's only two syllables and most nickname possibilities I can come up with sound stupid.

I agree that it's a strong and handsome name. Personally, I prefer to pronounce it stressing the first syllable rather than the last, but I like it both ways. The only nickname I've ever heard for it is Gerry, but that's for the first syllable stress. Focusing on the second syllable, Rory comes to mind but it's a stretch. "G"? "Jed"/"Ged"?

I'm not fond of it. I find it clumsy. I'd never use it. The only nickname I can think of is Gerry or Jerry. I had a friend named Geraldine when I was middle school age and I can remember her telling me that her mother had had several miscarriages prior to her birth so when she was pregnant with her she prayed to St. Gerard, had a successful pregnancy, and named her Geraldine for that reason. I guess because there's no such name as Gerardine? Also I work with a young Gerard but he goes by a totally unrelated nickname.

I like it when it's GERard but not if it's geRARD.Its only possible nn must surely be Gerry, and for that reason I'd avoid it as a fn.

I like it only as a mn and only because it's my father in laws Mn. Otherwise I get a "poopy" vibe from it. I don't know, maybe it's because I think of giardia.

I adore Gerard! I, too, have familial connections with the name (on my mother's Irish side).
It is a handsome blend of durability and robustness, but is also very refined, classic, and artistic. As for nicknames... Ger, Gerry, and Jerry are prominent options, of course. I think you could get away with Rory, too. If I were to use Gerard (which I have heavily considered), Ardy (Ardi, Ardie, Arde, perhaps Arty?), Ard (Art?) and Ardio would tempt me (it may not be what I would consistently use, but I think it'd be a "fun" and playful diminutive). You might be able to get away with Rocky or Rob, if you're up to the stretch.

I love it, for all the reasons you listed. Strong, solid, and handsome. Really great! Gerry/Jerry is an obvious nickname, and a good way to get it since I don't really care for Gerald, but I'd probably use Ardy as a nickname. Not sure why, but I think it's adorable.
