I love Margot, it's on my list and I think it would be a fun way of honouring a Margaret in the family - which is my excuse if I ever use it because my sister's middle name is Margaret and our grandmother was Marjorie.
I don't think it matters if you no French ancestry, especially because it's been popularised by Despicable Me, so now most people know how to pronounce/spell it. :)
