[Opinions] Lida
I'm reading a book and this was a character's name. How would you pronounce it - LIE-dah or LEE-dah?I pronounce it LIE-dah, though I'd like the spelling Lyda better. Actually, that appeals to me way more than Lida.•••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••
I know, it's all horrible teenage angst.

Where I live, it's always LEEdah, with the EE a bit shorter than it is in English. It's a shortened form of Alida, which people claim to find long and clunky.

LEE-dah

I would pronounce Lida as "LEE-duh." I don't care for the "LIE-duh" pronunciation or the Lyda spelling. I've loved the name Leda since childhood. I pronounce it "LEE-duh," so perhaps that's affecting my perception of Lida.

I'd pronounce Lida LEE-dah. ANd I prefer than spelling and sound to Lyda and LIE-dah.

I'm not sure of the proper pronunciation, and frankly I'm not a fan of either. LIE-dah makes me think of lidocaine, and the LEE-dah pronunciation makes me think of someone with a particular accent saying leader.

I would pronounce it LEE-dah. It would be unusable in Sweden, though, because lida means "to suffer" in Swedish. Stephen King's Misery is called Lida in Swedish.
Oh, and I forgot to add - Leda and Lyda are no better. Leda means "boredom" (or "to lead") and lyda means "to obey"!
