[Opinions] Eskra
I have just finished reading a novel in which there was a character named Eskra. She was born to Irish parents living in New York in the early 1900s. I have never heard this name before. I wonder if it could be an Irish name, or maybe the author made it up?What do you think about Eskra? Personally I would not use it, but it is interesting.

I don't care for Eskra. But I am fascinated by the Russian girl's name Iskra ("ees-KRAH"). It means spark and was the name of a revolutionary newspaper in the early days of communism. So it's a very loaded name. I wouldn't suggest it for anyone. But purely as a name the sound of it enchants me. Plus, it sounds kind of dangerous with that revolutionary origin.

I keep reading this as eks-trah. I know there's not even a t in there but I have to stop and read this really slowly to get it right.

Well, I'm pronouncing Eskra as es-KRUH, and "escrow" is pronounced es-KRO. They don't sound exactly alike, but they sound similar, unless I have Eskra all wrong. The name just reminded me of that word.

Haha, I wasn't being mean! I was just wondering. I think of Eskra as ES-krah, or ess-KRA, or even it might even vaguely be ess-(ch) [like 'loch']ra, or iss-crah, or eiskh-RRAH a la weird-pseudo-Deutsch. It just stumped me with the a little bit!

Reminds me of Iskra as it does Caprice, though I like Iskra personally, and I like Eskra. But Iskra has the cooler meaning, if this site is right:http://places.galwaylibrary.ie/asp/fullresult.asp?id=34584

It reminds me of Iskra. Can't say I like either. Eskra makes me think of an etch-a-sketch board, actually. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eskra
Apparently it's a place name.
