[Opinions] Re: Ilia / Ilya
in reply to a message by LaughingSunset
I love Ilya, on a boy. I grew up watching tennis and Ilya Nastase was always fun to watch. Ilya struck an early name nerd instinct in me when I learned it was the Russian form of Elijah. The neurotransmitters went into overdrive and I was fascinated. Besides, Ilya is just so much fun to say out loud. Ilya Constantine is my stock combo for it.
On a girl? I'll pass. I've almost given up on Sasha and Nikita on a boy. Please don't make me let go of Ilya as well. :0/ What about Ilse / Ilsa instead?

Sorry, it's already a feminine name in Colombia. I agree about it staying a boy's name, but the -ia/-ya ending is feminine in so many languages that I can see how it jumped genders.
