[Opinions] Coughangela...?
Just did a quick read through of the Dear America book "I Thought My Soul Would Rise and Fly", and I couldn't help but pay closer-than-usual attention to the book's dedication: "For my dear nieces, Lisa, Tracy, Coughangela, April, and Megan. And my favorite nephew, Austin, III." In a list of quite normal names, Coughangela definitely stuck out, and sort of baffled me. I can't get behind the mindset of putting the word "cough" in front of Angela. What are your thoughts on the name?

If you were to ask people over at yahoo questions "what do you think about the name, coughhangela" they would assume that your trolling lol
Yeah, I'm not crazy for it. Not one bit. Take away the coughh part which leaves you with angela

WTF? I'm not even sure how it's supposed to be pronounced.

I think it's probably a mistake ...Or an inside joke.

This is off topic but I loved those books when I was a child and could never remember what they were called. Thank you!As for Coughangela it sounds like when someone is talking badly about someone and is "disguising" their name with a cough.

No problem! :) I'd been wanting to read those books for some time, but just recently found out that my library has them. Score~ (quick not, the "boy's" equivalent to the series is called My Name is America [I enjoy those as well]).And I agree, the scenario of *coughAngelacough* definitely did cross my mind as well.

There has to be an inside story behind that. Like Carol Burnett tugging her ear to say 'I love you' to someone at the end of her show.

I wondered about that as well, though I thought it might be slightly odd for the author to use an in-joke for one niece, and just use the straight names for the others (though it's still definitely possible).

Maybe it's just the one niece that the author has that kind of in-joke with? One related to her name, I mean. There's something similar in my family.

Yeah, my first thought was that it had to be some kind of inside joke. I didn't know about Carol Burnett, though, but I looked it up and that's really sweet.
