What's wrong with "Game of Thrones" names? Some of them are really awesome.

Well, a lot of people think they're unusable. *see below*
That's a bit silly. Many names become popular because of books. In fact, it's speculated that there a lot of names that authors invented. Not all of them are as fantastical as Martin's names, but that just means the person that enjoys them is a fantastical person. Names are what they are. Who knows.... some of Martin's wonders could be considered at least somewhat common place some day if enough people like the way they sound.
This is true. My own name was coined by the author of a novel for use in the novel. Then it started to be used and eventually became mainstream. My name was based upon a name that already existed, but Benjen seems to be based upon Benjamin.
I actually really like Benjen, though Benjamin was way too popular in my generation for me to consider it. another name I lived from that series is Theon. Shame I didn't like the character so much..
I know people are naming their daughters Khaleesi, but I think Daenerys is the better name. Not enough people are using THAT.
Benjen just sounds like a slurrred, hillbilly or Cockney mangling of Benjamin.
I'd go with Benjen. Benjamin is boooringgg.
I know this makes me out of the loop, but never seen Game of Thrones.
I thought of a couple of things upon reading the topic title:
Bingin'
Ben 10
Ben Afleck + Jennifer Lopez
Benji
Unfortunately, it took all those rabbit tunnels before I thought of it on a person.
While it's not horrible, and I would only blink if I met one, I would not consider it myself, nor would I reccommend it. It's just NMS, and not particularly handsome to me.
Benjamin is much better imo.
Consider these alternatives too:
Bennen
Brennan
Bentin or Benton
Benyamin
Balendin
Boyan

I appreciate the suggestions, but none of those names have the same sound as Benjen/Benjamin. I think it's the "J" that really appeals to me; it's so bouncy and happy. I can't think of another way to put it.
Ah, and I purposely left the 'j' out because that is what distracted me.
If that is the sound you like, then I can't think of anything similar either. Though, I did have a friend with a cat named Bojangles that is just about as fun.

It looks and sounds ridiculous, like those Hollywood couple names, Tomkat, bradgelina etc. Benjamin is way better.

When I read Benjen, I honestly thought that was what the thread was probably going to be about. :O
(I must be one of the last people on Earth who have never watched the show or read the books ;) )

You're not alone, I haven't read or watch it either. :) And I kind of thought the same thing when I saw the title if the thread.
I don't really like the sound of it, but it would make a decent nickname for Benjamin. I think it could work as a name though, if you want. That said, I don't know squat about Game of Thrones. Video game, I assume?
Googling...
Oh, TV show. Go figure.

TV show based on books. The book series is called "A Song of Ice & Fire".

Same here. But, I think in general Anakin is about as "usable" as Benjen (I just like Anakin a lot more). Because I think it's such a statement to use a name that is original to contemporary pop culture. It seems enough like saying you want your child to strive to be like the character, that it's kind of funny. Lighthearted rather than ridiculous, I guess. Too lighthearted a naming style for me personally.
What's Rilian from?

Prince Rilian is the son of Caspian (King Caspian). He is first introduced in my favorite Chronicles of Narnia book ever, The Silver Chair.
His mom is a star (named Ramandu).
I'm pretty much a fan of most of the names C.S. Lewis uses in his books.
J.R.R. Tolkien too.
... and the writers of Star Trek.
