[Opinions] Dare
I'm reading "The Lonely Doll: The Search for Dare Wright" by Jean Nathan, a book about a 50's fashion model turned children's book author, and the name Dare has been on my mind because of it. This woman's name was actually Alice Dare Wright, but everyone called her Dare. I think it sounds cool, in that 50's retro sort of way, kind of like Bing or Bette. What do you think? Keep in mind that I'm not planning on naming a child, so you don't have to think of it in that context.
Oh, and if you want to know more about this woman, here is a link. She led an interesting life, and her children's books are, well, a little dark: http://www.darewright.com

I love it, actually! Alice Dare is really great, with an edgy vibe. Dare is actually really awesome, and now I want to come up with some combo to use it.
I'm not getting any fifties vibe off Dare; or Alice, for that matter. Dare just doesn't seem like a name to me.
Earlier this year I read a book called "Debbie Doesn't Do It Anymore" by Walter Mosley. It's a novel about a black porn star who suffers a breakdown when her husband and a teenage wannabe are electrocuted in the hot tub while having sex. She leaves the business and tries to make a new life for herself. Her stage name is Debbie Dare, though we find out her real name is Sandra. Dare just seems kind of sleazy to me.

I think it fits better on a boy for some reason.
Sebastian Dare is awesome.

I'm too much of a traditionalist to have it as a first name, but I think it could be a really cool nickname/middle name. I don't like Alice Dare, though. The liss sound in Alice just sounds wrong with the hard d of Dare. I'd use something like:
Marin Dare
Poppy Dare
Roran Dare
Kellan Dare
Dare feels like it demands a non "classic" first name. I love Elisabeth and John but neither of them sound right with Dare imo.

First, previewed a couple of her books and I love them. Evil Druth and Rogan the prince? Totally want to read the fairy tale book.
The reast with the dolls is more social co mmentary for kids... I find them useful in explaining moral stuffs in a way kids understand. They would love the propped dolls as illustration too... even though it's borderline creepy for me.
As for the name... Dare. Love it.
I am a huge fan of edgy nickname, or even just unusual ones.
I also love word names and have only recently embraced them as realistic.
I think Alice Dare was a pretty cool combo and I would love to be an Alice, who mostly goes by Dare.
