[Opinions] Irene
The name Irene has been growing on me lately. What are your opinions on the name?

It's not bad, I prefer it as a mn. I think I prefer Eileen to Irene. (Different names but similar sounding).
I love it pronounced 'eye-REE-nee' but that'd be so hard to achieve nowadays. That's how it was said on the BBC's version of the Forsyte Saga, which I loved. I detest 'EYE-reen' because it's dated, and 'eye-REEN' even more so, because it reminds me of the dreadful soap Home and Away.

How are you pronouncing it? I absolutely love it pronounced the American way (i-REEN). I think it's classic without being dated, and sophisticated without being pretentious. It's really lovely.

I happen to love Irene. It contains a lot of elements that I adore in names: its the name of a goddess but its not extremely unusual, it's Victorian but its not insanely popular, its a name that ages well and its a name that doesn't need a nickname or would be difficult for a child to have. I think its wonderful!
I like Irene, I think it is a classic due for come-back. I love the meaning (peace). I also like the Russian form, Irina.

I dislike it. It sounds dated to me. I much prefer Irina, which is gorgeous.
