I had an aunt in my stepfamily named
Bertha who passed away two years ago - she went by
Bert. For the longest time I thought
Bert was a nickname for
Roberta (since that was much more common when she was born), until she told me, "Nope, it's
Bertha. You can see why I go by
Bert." She didn't like her name at all.
And her sister's name is
Magdalena. I remember once sitting in the living room several years back with my dad and stepmom, and their names had come up. My stepmom just shook her head and was like, "
Bertha and
Magdalena... who *does* that to their kids?!"
I miss Aunt
Bert.
