I really like it and the popularity doesn't bother me that much. It's weird because a few years ago I hated it, just too old-man, Old Testament for me. I get a different vibe from it these days though.
I don't have an issue with nicknames but I don't like Jake (seems like a lot of people here don't like it). If I had a Jacob, I think I'd use Jay as a nickname.
