I knew a guy who went by Silver. It was either a known fact, or suspected by everyone he worked with - I can't recall which - that it was a self-bestowed name and his real name was Robert or something like that. He was a quirky person... nice, creative minded, smart, but slightly prickly and introverted - he had that 1990s geek chic thing going on, if you know what I'm talking about. So that's what I think of. It's a pseudo sort of name, characterish, would seem awkwardly affected even if it's not. A usable nickname though, if you don't mind the airs or if you even like it. Noboby had any problem calling the guy Silver. But, it was still the word. It didn't become a name, even calling him that every day.

What it keeps making me think of in spite of myself, is silver hair and silverback gorillas. A connotation of male age status. And of Nevada and the old West.

+eta anyway I hadn't heard of the show so I kinda ignored the names. Is that a reality show or are the names fake? Jonathan Silver is really obvious? Long John Silver? No way did someone come up with that and not realize.
