Funny that you post about Marie because I've been thinking about this name quite a bit lately. My mom's first name is Mary and I've thought about the names Mary, Marie, and Maria to honor her someday. I really like Marie, both as a first name and a middle name. I think it would be quite refreshing in the first name spot. Plus, it is relatively underused these days but most English speakers can easily pronounce and spell it. It's short so a child could easily learn how to spell her own name. I really like Marie. I don't think it's boring at all.

Marie would be quite refreshing as a first name. I've only ever met one person with the first name Marie, and it was a girl in my class in second grade who moved away after one year. It's definitely less boring than Mary or Maria, of which I have known many.

I love the name Marie, as a first or middle. However, I much prefer it as a first. It is on our list for girls too.

I have only met a couple of Maries in my life and it always seemed a lot fresher than other names, yet still simple and sweet.

Kinda, but slightly less so. Overall I prefer Maria.

Marie is nice enough. I don't know that it's boring. But it's not exciting either. It's only boring as a middle name because it sounds good with nearly everything and so it's a lazy middle name to go for in many cases.

Yep. It's better as a first name, but still pretty meh. It's just not anything special, or exciting.

It's definitely expected in the middle, but I think it can add sparkle to a lot of names. Like Olivia Marie, while expected, is still objectively very pretty. It's also kind of fun to put it with more outlandish names, i.e. September Marie or Xanthippe Marie.

I think it's nice as a first name too, though because it's so common as a middle name it might give kind of a sidekick vibe. I know one who pronounces it like MAH-ree (her family is Georgian) and it feels more dominant.

Anyway I might be in the minority but I don't believe in "filler middle names". Names like Rose, Ann, and Marie are good names that happen to be commonly used in the middle because they complement others well... Lynn being maybe the exception that I rarely approve of. ;)

I think it's much more interesting as a first name.

I love Marie up front! It's underappreciated as a first name.
