I know the wife of a Detlef, and have met him once or twice. He's known as Det. Seems fine to me! Wouldn't use it myself, because there are so many names I like better.

The Detlef I knew also went by Det.

Unlike a William, say, a Detlef has very few nn options!

I dunno, I suppose he could go by Lev, Leif, Leaf, Det, Ted, etc.
