Help[Surname] Any info or hunches on Begey? Italian?
My grandpa was adopted by amazing people. They had one child biologically and 3 by adoption. However I want to finish my grandfather's search for his bio family. Because of this I'd like as much information as possible on his pre-adoption surname Begey.
Supposedly his parents were Italian, immigrated to America when his mom was pregnant, he was born in America and then his parents were deported. I don't think that's the truth though. He did look Mediterranean but I think the rest sounds idealistic and most people with that last name are french. It's quite possible that his paents were unmarried teenagers.
Also,the spelling Begey was on the only pre-adoption census. That census taker spelled his first name wrong so the last name could be spelled wrong too.
I can't think of any more information, I don't have much anyway. Thank you for whatever help given or interest shown
