[Opinions] Canning
Hello, I need slight assistance on naming this character. He is described as being in his late 40's, maybe early 50's. He is tall (average height actually) is 'large built' Thick but not fat, or at least not entirely fat and blubber, more muscle. Has short red hair accompanied with reddish\blonde facial hair, kind blue eyes. Doesn't often loose his temper, very easy going, practical thinker, non-judemental.
He loves spending time with his family (his wife Melanie and their four children together, his wife along with his 2 youngest sons being profoundly deaf)I know names don't make people and that "any" name could work but just humor me here. Do you have any names that you believe would work and fit?
For instances, I was thinking about Patrick Canning but feel it just doesn't flow or Arthur Canning but I'm not sure if Arthur fits him. Hmmmm
The surname is Canning. Just need some name suggestionsNothing starting with the letters C, M, or S please. Thanks to all who help

I actually don't think "any name will do for characters" I find it really takes away from the story when a character has a name that seems out of place, names that are anachronistic or culturally inappropriate are the main offenders, but sometimes it can also be that the name just doesn't fit the character. Basically, I'm just saying I think it's a legitimate question to ask. Is the novel set in the present day? What country is it set in / was the character born in? That might help with figuring out which names are most appropriate. Brian
Brent
David
Dennis
Donald
Keith
Mark
Richard - Rich seems to fit the character
Russell - the nickname Rusty could do double duty with his hair

Thanks so much!! And I agree with what you are saying. Yes, sometimes a name just doesn't fit a character but much too often I get responses such as "any name will do" "people make names, not the other way around" or "how does any anything with what he or she will be named" the obvious offenders are well, obvious; anachronistic & culturaly as what you state. But with names that just don't fit a character, some people seem to not understand that concept at all. Lol. I try to avoid asking these types of questions on yahoanswers \;The setting: a small town in modern day Minnesota, USA. The names you provided definitely will go into my potential list. Thank you
