NinaI was almost named Nina.

NinaNo contest for me as it's what my grandmother was called, although not actually her name. I've always liked it. Mira is nice enough but I don't have any associations with it.

MyraSee what I did there? :)

I don't like Myra. Nice try, though.

coincidence!Just last evening, I met a young woman named Mira.Age about 18. Nice girl, so now I like Mira best.

MiraI prefer M names over N names. Just a personal preference I guess

Mira, but......only because Nina is too close to my son's name for my comfort. I actually prefer Nina.

MiraMira is part of my middle name, and Nina is my aunt haha. But I'm not a big fan of -ina names.

Nina, any day. (My very much younger self used to think that naming twin girls Nancy and Nina would be a really good idea ...)That said, Mira doesn't happen where I live, so I've got no associations with it. I'd expect it to be a nn for Mirabel, Miranda or even Miriam, and for all of these I prefer the full form.

My niece is Miranda nn Mira. But she's never, ever gone by Miranda. IN fact she's Mary Miranda nn Mira. Imagine how confusing that is!

Mira by far...It's one of my favorite names. I love the meanings, all of them. I love it alone and as a NN for Mirabel. Nina is to nicknamey and whiney in sound. It seems childish.

MiraI've always disliked Nina. It sounds childish and whiny.

Nina. I just think it sounds better.:)

MiraMira's meaning is more substantial than Nina's, and Mira sounds less whiny than Nina.

Which meaning of Nina? That's the thing I love about Nina - the usage. There are four different entries for the name Nina!

MiraMira is different and makes me go, "oh, you don't hear that often."Nina is sweet and simple. But I'm going with Mira.

NinaNina is one of my favourite girls names.
Besides, Mira doesn't sound attractive in my opinion.

NinaIt just sounds better.

Mira! But I love Nina as well!

Nina, because l hate Mira.
vote up1
MiraBecause Nina is dated here and SO BORING. It's just a sound, not a name.

NinaIt's so cute, why isn't it used more? Mira is fine, but it's also a mirror from New England.

NinaBut I like both!

NinaI have trouble separating the name Mira from the words mirror and miracle and Spanish LOOK! and I dunno, it looks superficial and bratty. Maybe mostly because I have never met nor heard of an adult Mira - only children. I like it alright on a real person, though. Nina suffers a little from word association with ninny, and generally too much negative N sound, like, my name is No! But to me it seems too classicky and also informal, for that to damage it. And I think it seems ageless and can be powerful. Reminds me of Nina Hagen.I'd rather be Nina, and I'm on the fence about naming a child but I think I'd go with Nina.

Mira by far. Mira feels deeply beautiful and alluring and natural.
Nina feels cheap and whiny and annoying in comparison.

NinaI love the name so much, and it has a more classic feeling than Mira. Plus I have a niece named Mira.

Mira.Nina has the most annoying, silly sound. This question made me think of something that I haven't thought of in years--the cartoonist Al Hirschfeld. His daughter's name was Nina and after her birth he would hide her name somewhere at least once in his drawings and it became a game to "find the Ninas."

Nina. Though Mira looks nice.

MiraI think it looks and sounds nicer (although I appreciate Nina's zippiness), and love the meaning.

MiraMira, because I love its soft sound and the meaning.
And I like that you don't see it too often, but it is very sophisticated.Nina sounds cheap to me (sorry!). It used to be a very common namen where I live. Plus, it is somehow empty to me.
