I think I have a different opinion than most. I believe that if you are going to call a child by a nickname then just name the kid that nickname. But this is coming from the mother of Max not Maxwell, Maximus or Maximilian just simple Max.
I think all these names except Fran and Cliff are stand alone names.

Completely agree! Except in a few situations, but a lot of the time I think people are making a fuss over nothing. And I think all the ones stated above can definitely work.

I totally agree with you. I am not too fond of nicknames- or at least of choosing one even before a child is born.
