[Opinions] Acetylene
Today in my science class we were talking about Acetylene and me an my friends began talking about how we could imagine some people might actually consider this as a girls name.
We came up with some alternative spellings: Acetiline and Asettilyn
Our nickname ideas were: Assie, Cettie, Leeny, Ty, Ettie
What you do think?? Would people actually use this?
(for those who don't know Acetylene is a Hydrocarbon gas also known as Ethyne)

I can see someone just hearing the word, and not knowing what it is, thinking it would make a good name. The "lene" factor helps.
"Cettie" would be my nick-name choice.

I'm not sure how how an English speaking person pronounces this but in my pronunciation (ah-tseh-ty-LEHN; y like in french 'rue') it doesn't sound very pretty.
I personally don't think it's usable but I can imagine someone out there using it as a name. After all, stranger things have happened.
Possibly nns:
Lena
Leni
Zettie

Sounds nice, but too OTT to use of course. Though i like Ethyl with that spelling because I'm a nerd. :)
I don't think people would, it reads chemically.
It makes me think Aceline. Now, Acelyne—which also reads chemically—I can see people using.

I don't think I'd want to name my kid after a gas.
I guess it's possible, in the same way it's possible somebody someplace might name their kid Aspirin or Codeine, but realistically? Not more than a one-or-two-times-in-the-world kind of way.
I remember my school chemistry teacher joking that he would name his daughter Antimony. It does sound like a cool name, but not in reality.

I think most people would object more to the "ass" sound in it, than based on having any idea what acetylene is. Well, if not for the extreme utility of the common acetylene welding torch... only a chemistry geek would use it. I think it'd be sort of fun to bear. NN Asti? lol. Careful ... the energy in my triple bond, you know...
reminds me a little of Poly Styrene https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Poly_Styrene

Naphthalene is also pretty cool, imagine that as a sibset Naphthalene and Acetylene that'd be hilarious
Thered be so many funny little jokes you could make if you had these kinds of names hehe
