[Opinions] Mercy and Amity

Amity = Amityville Horror. Sorry, that's all I see.
Mercy, on the other hand, would be refreshing to see on a baby girl today as a 19th century (earlier?) throwback.

I really like them both, but I recognize the teasing factor for each, especially Amity.
I love Mercy. It sounds like the name of a badass gunslinger girl from the old west lol. Amity mostly just makes me think of Jaws, but I still like it. I think Puritan-ish names like these can be fun and are totally usable, they're not particularly feminine but they're not boyish either so it's a nice balance. :)
This is so weird... Just yesterday I was thinking of cat names (I might adopt 2 cats) and I thought of Mercy and Amity as a pair. What a coincidence!
I know they share kind of a creepy vibe, but I kind of like that about them. There's nothing ACTUALLY creepy about the names - it's just that ''mercy'' is a bit intense, ''amity'' has the Amityville association, and there's something just generally kind of creepy about the pilgrim puritans, don't you think? There was a movie last year called ''The Witch'' - a horror movie set in pilgrim times. One of the characters (a young girl) was called Mercy, with siblings Thomasin (female) and Jonas.

In actual fact I don't like both of them, even less Amity, because of the Amityville Horror movie/film, not a good association, IMO.
And Mercy, too kind of celebrity, the only thing I can think of, is the daughter of Madonna, Mercy James Ciccone.
But still, of course, even better than the usual suspects "Faith & Hope".

Although they're NMS, I really like them, especially Mercy. One of my favorite boys names atm is Mercer, and Mercy has that same really cool sound. Unfortunately Amity has the association with the Divergent series for me, which makes me not like it as much.
I really like that these are interesting virtue names, rather than the jaded Hope or Faith. This would make a really cute sibset.

I've always been a bit iffy on word names. I think one can be a bit more creative than naming their kid Hope, or Love or something. However, Mercy is quite cool sounding. I don't know if it's usable on a real person, but I can see it on a book or video game character. In fact, there's a character named Mercy on the game Overwatch.
While Amity is quite a rare word and will probably avoid the association with word names, i can't get used to the sound of it. It sounds kind of clumsy and weird to me. Might be cause that name without the A actually means "nose" in my language. Who knows.
