I don't think so. I think a name that has an upsurge in popularity because it's related to a celebrity still has to be a name with contemporary appeal. Angelina is a good example, with its relatively recent spike in popularity.

Seriously though, if there are any extra Donalds born it's much more likely to be due to grandpas & great-grandpas, as it was a top 10 name in the US for almost twenty years. I would have considered it as a middle name myself after the spousal grandpa, who by all accounts was an excellent chap. One bad apple don't spoil the whole bunch.

It was an ugly name before and it's even uglier now. Never liked it - but I like Donnie.

I remember a lot of people were turned off by the name George during Dubbya's years even if they supported him as president because he was a very controversial figure and they were worried about people associating politics with their child's name. And George has always been a common name. Considering Donald hasn't been popular for a long time naming your child Donald would be something of a statement, and I think that would only appeal to a small number of people.

I think, if people are going to name after him, they'll probably use Trump rather than Donald.

I don't think Donald is a name that will appeal to many Americans, it's been falling for years. I think his middle name, John, would appeal more to parents but many don't associate it with him.

I hope not. I guess some people who voted for him might use it especially for babies born in the next few weeks out of enthusiasm, but those who didn't will stay as far away from it as they can. Overall its popularity will only increase a tiny little bit, if it will increase at all. I feel sorry for poor Hillary and Hilary. It is such a lovely name, but has been falling like crazy since the early 90s.

Based on the popularity of names like Ronald, William, George, Barack over the last 35 years, I don't think the president's FN has much influence on baby name trends...but who knows, maybe Trump will be the exception.
