Help[Opinions] Emeline
I think Emmeline is nice, too, but I think this more French spelling really strikes an artful chord with my soul and I'd be more likely to spell it with one m now, by default.
I was in NYC, and I looked in the Macy's display window that they did for the holidays, and one of them was all letters to Santa; one obviously antique French letter was in the tastefully disheveled heaps with the return address written in beautiful cursive, simply saying "Emeline" -- I have not been able to stop thinking about Emeline since that tiny scrap of a moment got emblazoned in my brain. It's funny how names can stick in your head from the tiniest of minutiae.
Any opinions on Emeline?

I can't say I like it. She is like the princess who gets left behind. Her dress has too much tulle, her parents try too hard to remain relevant, and she just flits through life wondering why people do not worship her.

First of all, I never know how to say it: Emma-Lyn? Emma-Leen? Emma-Line? That right there knocks it down to not-a-good-name status.
Also, I really dislike the dowdy, frumpy Emma and the prissy, snobbish Emily, so even if Emeline had a definite single pronunciation, I wouldn't like it.

Since it is of French origin, it would definitely be pronounced -leen.

I love it! I've been fond of it for many years. I prefer it to Emmeline.

Emeline and Emmeline are quite different to me because I pronounce Emeline the French way (-EEN) while I pronounce Emmeline to rhyme with wine. I like them both but Emmeline looks more complete to me. I also like the nickname Emmy. Emeline must have been quite common at one point, I know three girls with the name, all French and born in the early 90s.

I don't understand where you are getting the idea from that I said you weren't pronouncing them like I do. I didn't say that at all. I just gave you my opinion and I was trying to be helpful by stating how the names are different to me.
