I really like the name Arusha for a girl. Pronounced A- ROO-sha. But need some help with a shorter nickname for it. Any suggestions?

Shay is a great suggestion. I can't seem to think outside the box like that conserning nn's. But that's my first daughters name. Only spelled the Irish way. Shea.

Roo is kinda cute. I think its the name of the little guy who hangs out with Winnie the Pooh:)

I'm sure...that with two kids, you have plenty of other things on your mind besides Kanga and Roo :o) And Tigger, Owl, Rabbit, Eyore, and Christopher Robin. My mom swears she can still recite the movie from memory, I watched it so much when I was small, so I have a legitimate reason for Ultimate-Pooh recall!_________________________________________________

Eeyore, you mean. :-pThough Eeyore himself spells his name eoR.I was never really into Winnie the Pooh, but I read a few of the books and watched a movie or two in my toddlerhood. I liked Eeyore because he was the darkest character, which only goes to show just how (secretly) twisted I really am...

Ari, Roo/Ru, Rushie, Rusha, Aru, Ash, Asha, Ashie, etc.I much prefer Jerusha and Aretha to Arusha, which sounds like an odd mix of the two to my ears.Array

I like Asha, thanks. Arusha is actually a place name in Tanzania, (where my husband and I got engaged) so I'm sure it wouldn't be a familiar sound to too many people. I've never heard of Jerusha though, it's nice, but too similar to Jerusalem to me.

In case you didn't know: according to Adrian Room's African Place Names, the city of Arusha was named after the Arusha tribe, but the meaning of the tribal name is unknown.
