I like it. It seems like a more intellectual, more British version of
Miles. It still has a certain edge of cool to it like
Miles does.
Miles seems slightly more laid back than
Giles. I associate
Miles with
Miles Davis.
Giles I associate with the character from
Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
Miles seems like a person who appreciates or plays jazz or rock.
Giles feels more Beatnik or possibly Blues or Classical.
Niles reminds me of a more nerdy
Giles that has lost its cool edge. I don't hate
Niles, I actually like it inspite of its lack of cool. It reminds me of
Niles Crane from Frasier.
Even though the character isn't British the name feels British to me. Probably because it reminds me of the name
Nigel.
Niles,
Nigel, and
Neville all feel very British as does
Giles, Jeeves,
Alfred,
Percy,
Rory,
Toby, and
Trevor. Oddly
Miles feels American to me even though
Niles and
Giles feel British. But I can easily see these names used in other countries as well.
Sorry got a little off track. Over all I really like
Giles with its mix of intellectual and cool.
