Shalom for anyone seems silly. Yes, the meaning is good, but it also has another, more everyday meaning, which is as a greeting (Hello and also Goodbye). I love it when my Jewish friends greet me with Shalom, but hearing it on a person would be odd.
And, it's unusual as a given name, and I'm willing to bet that people hearing it would think they were hearing the more familiar Sharon instead.
I could be wrong, of course. Do you know any Israelis you could check with?

I haven't even heard the greeting in real life, but it's engrained in my mind as so, and the idea of it as a name has always sounded strange to me.
